Meet Bone Jovi🐾
Bone Jovi is more than just the Bone Museum’s resident cat.
He’s part of a long tradition of cats playing an important role in museums, libraries, and archives around the world.
Bone Jovi’s Story
Bone Jovi was officially adopted by the Bone Museum in
June 2025 during a cat adoption event hosted at the museum
in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society.
From the moment he arrived, Bone Jovi made himself completely
at home. He wasted no time exploring the exhibits, greeting staff, and inserting himself into daily museum life as if he had always belonged there.
Cats in Museums
Historically, cats have been kept in museums and collections
spaces for several reasons:
Collection guardianship: Cats helped protect artifacts
and specimens from rodents and pests.Pest control: Long before modern preservation methods,
cats were a practical solution for safeguarding collections.Morale and companionship: Cats have long been valued
for bringing comfort, calm, and personality to
working environments.
Bone Jovi proudly carries on this tradition, though with a
bit more flair.
Life at the
Bone Museum
Bone Jovi is known for his outgoing personality
and unmistakable charm:
He loves attention and will happily accept pets for as long
as you’re willing to give them.He is highly vocal and will meow unapologetically to
ensure he is noticed. He never says no to wearing a tie, perfectly completing
his professional tuxedo look.
On any given day, you can find Bone Jovi:
Mischievously patrolling the hallways
Soliciting attention from guests and staff alike
Or napping in his designated chair at the front desk,
where he keeps a close eye on museum operations
